Brief Bio

I am currently an Assistant Professor at the Department of Industrial Engineering, University of Trento, Italy.
I received the B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees summa cum laude in electrical engineering and the Ph.D. degree (Hons.) in systems and control theory from the University of Udine, Italy, in 2010, 2012, and 2016, respectively. I visited the Control and Dynamical Systems Group, California Institute of Technology, Pasadena, CA, USA, in 2012, and the Institute of Systems Theory and Automatic Control, University of Stuttgart, Germany, in 2015. I was a Research Fellow with the LCCC Linnaeus Center and the Department of Automatic Control, Lund University, Sweden, from 2016 to 2017, and an Assistant Professor with the Delft Center for Systems and Control, Delft University of Technology, The Netherlands, from 2017 to 2019.

My main research interests include the study of dynamical networks, the analysis of biological systems and the control of networked systems, with a special focus on systems biology and on models of systems in the life sciences (biology, ecology, epidemiology).

I received the TAC Outstanding Reviewer letter from the IEEE Transactions on Automatic Control in 2016;
the EECI Ph.D. Award 2016 from the European Embedded Control Institute for my thesis "Structural Analysis and Control of Dynamical Networks";
the NAHS Best Paper Prize 2017 as the co-author of the paper "A Switched System Approach to Dynamic Race Modelling," Nonlinear Analysis: Hybrid Systems, 2016;
the Outstanding Reviewer letter from the Annals of Internal Medicine in 2020
and the SIAM Activity Group on Control and Systems Theory Prize 2021 for "significant contributions to the development of innovative methodologies for the structural analysis of networked control systems and their applications to biological networks".
I was awarded the Delft Technology Fellowship grant in 2018 and the NWO Talent Programme Veni grant in 2019.

I am Associate Editor for the journal IEEE Control Systems Letters, and Editor for the 2020-2021 double Special Issue on "Systems and Control Research Efforts Against COVID-19 and Future Pandemics" of the journal Annual Reviews in Control. I was Associate Editor for the 2018 Special Issue "Control and Network Theory for Biological Systems" of the journal IEEE Control Systems Letters.
I am a member of the EUCA Editorial Board and of the IFAC Conference Editorial Board. I was Program Co-Chair for the 15th IFAC Symposium on Large Scale Complex Systems (LSS 2019) and joined the International Program Committee for many international conferences.
I am affiliate of the IFAC (International Federation of Automatic Control), and a member of the IEEE and of the Control Systems Society: within CSS, I am CSS Associate Editor of the IEEE Life Sciences Community and CSS Student Activities Chair.
I am a member of the IEEE Technical Committees on Robust and Complex Systems and on Systems and Synthetic Biology, and of the IFAC Technical Committee on Robust Control.
